“Love is not emotional bash, it is not empty sentimentalism. It is the active outpouring of one’s whole being into the being of another.” – Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
It is becoming harder everyday to stay sane and healthy during this period of the Covid-19 Pandemic. The many injustices and atrocities in the world become more and more evident everyday - rapes, racism acts and police brutality to name but a few. Pain and despair have taken permanent residence in the hearts of many.
However, anger and hate will always be too great a burden to bear. No lasting solution comes from it. It only makes you more depressed and at war within yourself. Maintaining a good mental health is becoming increasingly difficult.
Over the years and even more recently, I have come to realize that above any tips on mental health that anyone wants to give, love is still the best solution. I had to learn again that letting love rule my heart saves me from burning down the house, with me in it. It is never an easy step to take but it is worth it either ways.
So here it goes, my own definition of Love.
Love is peace, Inner peace in the middle of a chaotic and unhealthy environment. It is communication - never ignoring the problem but talking about it till there is amity. Love is dealing with issues from the roots - 400 years is too long to keep it buried. Love is respect and not forcefully trying to turn my NO to a YES. It is my body after all. Love is acceptance, judging a man not by the color of his skin but by the content of his character. It is deciding not to kick or kneel on a man who is already on the ground because “power at its best is love implementing the demands of justice”.
So Yes! Love is Justice.
But above all, Love is forgiveness. It is finding the strength to move forward. Love is smiling at your nosy neighbor and being kind to them regardless of what they think of you. Yet, Love sometimes is keeping a distance. Love never struts and yet is confident and stands strong. It is the true strength we have. So no matter what you say, believe or do, you are bankrupt without it.
I could go on and on but what I hope to say to you is that Love is one of many things that will keep you sane in this period. Love for yourself and a little more for others. But IT STARTS WITH YOU!
Again, it is not always an easy step to take but it is worth it either ways.
